Where the incidents come from

Every incident starts as a public radio dispatch on the Charlotte UASI trunked radio system. Broadcastify Calls records that system. We download the calls in batches, transcribe them on our own machine, and an agent classifies each one by what happened and which trades it will need.

Agencies on that system

• Charlotte Fire

  Fire dispatch: structure fires, alarms, gas leaks, water and electrical calls, elevator entrapments, lockouts with someone inside.

• Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police

  Police dispatch: vehicle collisions, vehicles into structures, and incidents that later need board-up or towing.

• Mecklenburg County Sheriff

  County patrol dispatch outside city limits.

How a call becomes an incident

1. A dispatcher calls units to an address on the public radio system.
2. We transcribe the recording locally.
3. An agent decides whether it is a property incident, what kind, how severe, and which trades it needs. Anything else is dropped.
4. The summary is published to the feed, with the location shown to the block.
